With every home that is purchased in our area, an investment is made in this wonderful community we are lucky to call home. At Marx-Bensdorf, REALTORS, we consider it a privilege to help buyers find the home of their dreams
and make memories that last a lifetime; it is also a privilege to help owners sell when the time comes. Still, to make Memphis the best home it can be for our clients, we believe that we all have to do our part to give back.
In a city as vibrant and diverse as ours, there are many opportunities to find a service project that is meaningful. From tutoring and mentoring school children to fundraising for the many incredible nonprofit organizations in town, there is always something to be done, big or small, to improve our schools, our neighborhoods, and our future.
Volunteering in Memphis
Our service goes beyond the home buying and selling process. It’s our privilege and our responsibility to make our community a place where others want to live, work, play, and spend their days.
For years, Marx-Bensdorf, REALTORS has emphasized the value of service through the various projects in which we participate. We are proud of our partnerships, and we are especially proud of our dedicated real estate agents who go above and beyond to better our community.
You can learn more about Marx-Bensdorf, REALTORS’ community involvement here
, but we want to highlight just a few of our projects:
As a fundamental building block to a successful and informed society, education ranks as one of our top priorities in giving back to Memphis. From the elementary to graduate level, our projects with education focus on supporting students to achieve more.
In 2011, Marx-Bensdorf, REALTORS adopted Brewster Elementary School
to help students and teachers succeed. We work with Brewster Elementary in a variety of ways, including back-to-school drives that help students start the year on the right foot.
In our first year, we began by donating 120 backpacks, filled with school supplies for the coming year. The next year, 2012, we spoke with teachers at the school and came up with another idea: the uniform drive. Through the uniform drive, we were able to donate 120 uniforms to students in the first year alone. These uniforms help combat truancy in schools, as some parents cannot afford to purchase the mandatory uniforms and, thus, do not send their children to school.
Along with our work with Brewster Elementary, we also support those who have an interest in becoming a professional in the real estate field. At the University of Memphis’ Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law
, funds are provided for the Jerome Rosengarten Scholarship, awarded to a law student who is pursuing a career in real estate law. Sheldon Rosengarten, with Marx-Bensdorf, REALTORS, and his wife Shelli fund this award annually in memory of Sheldon’s Father, who practiced law in Memphis and Shelby County for 57 years.
We realize how hard it can be for some, especially families and seniors, to put food on the table. Since 2010, Marx-Bensdorf, REALTORS real estate agents have served as collectors of pantry items and have made monetary donations for the Metropolitan Inter-Faith Association (MIFA)
During the annual food drive, our REALTORS collect and take all donations to the MIFA collection location. If you would like to participate, contact one of our REALTORS
today to find out how you can donate.
Financial support is another way we show dedication to and admiration for some of Memphis’ important organizations. Two of our sponsorship opportunities further exemplify our passion for education and helping those in need.
For the past three years, Marx-Bensdorf, REALTORS has been a sponsor of the annual fundraising drive of the Children’s Museum of Memphis
, a favorite spot for local and visiting families alike. The Children’s Museum is a leader in making Memphis a family-friendly place to live, and it is also a shining example of the value of early, hands-on educational programs.
Another organization our firm and our REALTORS have been thrilled to support is Literacy Mid-South
. Not only does Literacy Mid-South provide resources for more than 500 low-literate Memphians of all ages and backgrounds, it also throws a fantastic event each year to raise funds. Literatini, an event featuring live music, cocktails, food, and auction items at the Booksellers at Laurelwood, has become an annual favorite. Marx-Bensdorf, REALTORS was a sponsor in 2015 and was thrilled to serve as presenting sponsor in 2016.
One Of Our Own
While we are invested in making Memphis a better place, our investment became much more personal a few years ago. One of our valued agents, Teri Trotter, has been personally battling cancer, undergoing treatment for multiple diagnoses of breast cancer.
Fellow Marx-Bensdorf agent Margaret Burke has led the charge in creating a team in Teri’s name for the Fight On: Cycle. Run. Walk. event
to raise funds for the University of Tennessee/West Institute for Cancer Research.
Teri has been an inspiration for more than one service project. The Pink Wig Project
, which Teri implemented and manages, provides pink wigs to cancer patients as a reminder that their disease does not define who they are. We are so proud of all Teri has done and continues to do for so many in Memphis.
